Welcome to the Class Blog! This is where you as students will be asked to share connections between course materials and what you are learning in other classes, what you might see in social media related to deafness or your own experiences and questions. To get started please take a minute to introduce yourself and a connection or two you have to this course, or why you are taking this course.
One personal connection I have is my son, who is now 33, is Deaf and coaches varsity basketball at the Mississippi School for the Deaf. You may have recently seen a video that went viral of him coaching or a segment that the CBS Evening News did on him in December. YES! I am one proud mama!!
I look forward to reading your introductions and connections!
Hello, my name is Gabrielle Emmons. I am a sophomore, majoring in communication disorders with a minor in American Sign Language. I am from a very small town in northeastern Kentucky so I was never really exposed to diversity until I attended the Governor's Scholar Program and when I came to college. I completely fell in love with learning American Sign Language, as well as Deaf culture. This is a topic I am very passionate about and I look forward to learning so much in this course.
ReplyDeleteHello, I'm Kaylee Richardet. I am a freshman double majoring in Deaf Education (Middle School Science Concentration) and Agriculture Education. I am from Southeast Missouri. The town I am from had little to no deaf culture so EKU has been my first big exposure to this and I have been loving it! I look forward to expanding my knowledge of deaf culture and education through this class alongside all of you!
